There are three areas that every serious basketball player needs to focus on when they step off the court: Basketball Nutrition, Basketball Workouts and Basketball Leadership. This site is dedicated to providing the best information and newest advancements in basketball-specific training.
Most of the information on this site comes from a few quality resources:
BASKETBALL NUTRITION:
The nutrition strategies I use have been greatly influenced by Dr. John Berardi and Precision Nutrition. I was lucky enough to take their year-long training program, Scrawny to Brawny, where I learned valuable information on the importance of progressing nutrition.
Everything that I teach is a combination of book learning and practical experience. I never recommend consuming anything that I personally don’t eat.
BASKETBALL WORKOUTS:
My strength & conditioning philosophy is based primarily off the teachings of Dr. Gary Gray and the Gray Institute. They’re the world leaders in movement science and are true servant-leaders. I’ve completed their 40-week mentorship program in Functional Transformation and am currently in their PlayCoachMate program.
I also go through the all the workouts I create for my players so I have a sense for how difficult they are. The best way to study strength and conditioning is to do it.
BASKETBALL LEADERSHIP:
A special thanks to my teammates, coaches, friends and family who have taught me as much about leadership as the Master’s Program at Gonzaga University. Not a day goes by without learning from them how to be a better person.
I’ve taken the wisdom from these trusted advisors and transformed it into drills and daily habits for basketball players. Everything I teach on this site has been used and tested by myself and the athletes I train.
EAT
Learn what to eat so you can BUILD muscle, BURN fat and PERFORM better on the court.
TRAIN
Learn how to jump HIGHER, cut QUICKER and finish STRONGER on the court.
LEAD
Learn how to LEAD, SERVE and INSPIRE your teammates, coaches and community.
THE POWER OF 3
I like to break down concepts into “3’s”. This is a special number in nature because it’s the simplest form of complexity.
The tripod is the most stable structure on earth. There are only three primary colors and only three planes of motion. The power of your mind, body and spirit is just another example of the magic of three.
So you’ll notice that I’ve listed three reasons people seek me out as a sports nutritionist, three ways to improve your athleticism and three ways to lead your team.
In addition to the big-picture concepts, I also give you three specific things you can do to implement each one of the strategies. There is not one right way to do things, so adapt what you read and make it work for your unique situation.
The purpose of this site is to lay down a framework so you can organize the techniques you already use and utilize the new ones I’ll be teaching. The thought process is always more important than the actual exercises I’m teaching
While the information on the main site will stay fairly constant, my weekly blog will be sharing what I’m currently doing with my athletes so you can always stay on the cutting edge. You’ll see the exact basketball workouts I put my athletes through and what I’m having them eat.
My hope is that BUILT 4 BALL will inspire you to take action because none of these theories or techniques work… unless you do.
