Being strong on the court is both physical and mental. The two qualities go hand in hand.  It doesn’t matter if you’re physically strong if you’re mentally weak.

Basketball strength and conditioning workouts can help improve both aspects because they can transform your body and improve confidence.

As a college player, I saw my confidence on the court increase as I improved my strength numbers in the weight room.  The more time I spent training, the more I felt that I deserved success.

You can’t give someone self-confidence.  They must earn it through hours of hard work and repetition.  If they don’t put in the time, they’ll crack in the crucial moments when champions are made.

While there are endless exercises to improve athleticism, basketball players need to be efficient with their time and select basketball strength and conditioning drills that transfer onto the court.

Basketball Strength and Conditioning With No Machines Or Dumbbells

Although weights are an integral part of my basketball strength and conditioning program, I want my players to master their own body weight on the court. For this reason I include a lot of exercises that don’t have any external resistance.

If an athlete can’t do a perfect bodyweight squat, why would I want to put them under a weighted bar?  It will only cause them to compensate and eventually cause injury.

Once an athlete can squat, lunge, press and pull their bodyweight fast and slowly with perfect form, they’re ready to start using weights.

Here’s a video of my three favorite bodyweight exercises that will get you finishing STRONGER.  If you’d like to see more basketball strength and conditioning videos, checkout our YouTube channel.

Here are three tips to make your basketball strength and conditioning more effective:

– Slow down the exercise to create control.
– Speed up the exercise to improve power.
– Get your mind right before you step on the court.  Prepare to play strong.
